I learnt to swim at Redhill and Reigate Swimming Club when I was very young and started my competitive swimming career there. After a family move I joined the Croydon Amphibians Swimming Club and competed for them for many years both in youth and masters swimming. Swimming runs in my family as my mum was a competitive swimmer and a swimming teacher as well. I gained my qualifications in 1994 when I was still competing. I have been teaching swimming since then for the local council, local swimming pools, Croydon Amphibians Swimming Club and now The Sussex Swim School.
My son plays water polo for Drenched Mini Waterpolo and I also coach for them three times a week. I don’t have a lot of spare time but when I do I like to get to the beach and get some sea air or out for walks with the family

Coming from South Africa I have known how to swim since I can remember, swimming has always been a big part of my life. I swam throughout my school years competitively as well as swimming for my District.
Found teaching later on in my life leaving the corporate world behind and have not looked back, have loved every moment. Teaching is so rewarding and creates an amazing relationship between both parent and child. I have been teaching for 4 years now and it’s a privilege watching little ones grow from strength to strength as swimming is a life skill and a sport that you can enjoy throughout your lifetime.

I have always been a very keen swimmer, but didn’t compete until joining the Army when I represented my Corps in Breaststroke. Since then, I have done numerous Triathlons, some solo, some as part of a team, and love the challenge of swimming outdoors in lakes, rivers and the sea.
I became a swim teacher after having my second daughter, when I realised I wanted to do something more meaningful, so I quit the corporate lifestyle in favour of something more rewarding – and it was one of the best decisions of my life. I love seeing the delight on children’s faces when they swim their first length, or overcome fear and swim unaided. My lessons are fun and enjoyable but I also challenge children and encourage them to.
In my spare time, I enjoy mountain biking and kayaking – although I don’t get much time for either as I have two young children. I am also studying to become a Chair Based Exercise Instructor for the frail and elderly and want to deliver exercise classes in this area at some point in the future.

I have been teaching swimming for many years. I am a mother of three children, all of whom are good swimmers. My passion is surfing and swimming in the ocean. I am in the water through the darkest of winter days paddling out in the waves at 6am to snorkelling with my kids on the warmest of summer days. I love the ocean and believe every child should have the skill to be able to safely and confidently enjoy the water too. The health benefits to the mind and body of swimming and connecting with water are a life skill I am passionate to share and teach. My ethos is “Swimming should be fun, children should leave the class feeling happy, confident, calm and balanced.” It is important not to push or rush a child, allowing them time to build a love and passion for swimming in a nurturing environment. This will give them a life skill they will use forever.

I am delighted to be part of The Sussex Swim School.
I have has spent my working career involved with leisure provision having spent my full time working career in leisure centre management. During this time I qualified as a Level 1 and 2 swimming teacher, and have since added the Adult and Child qualification to that.
If I say that I often bump into people who remind me that I taught their child to swim, and that child has just graduated from University, you will probably guess how long I have been teaching swimming. However that doesn’t mean I have lost any enthusiasm for teaching swimming, in fact I have become even more passionate about making sure that every child I teach are given those early fundamental skills and confidence that are needed for this essential life skill.
Along with teaching swimming, I am also a qualified tennis coach, teaching the under 8’s at Horsham Tennis Club, and also a qualified trampoline coach, taking sessions at a Disability Sports Club.
When I have time I enjoy playing tennis, baking (I’m told I make an awesome chocolate brownie), and skiing in the winter months.
